Viewing digital photographs

The overall color of digital prints, similar to their photographic forerunners, will change a bit depending upon what light they are viewed under. When viewed with florescent office lights, prints will typically appear a bit magenta (pink). Viewing prints under low light conditions will tend to make the colors look muddy. For the most accurate color rendition view the prints either under a color corrected light such as those made by Solux or with a calibrated color viewing booth such as those made by X-Rite. At the very least, use daylight florescent bulbs in the portion of your office where the prints will be judged. Be sure the light level is high enough to bring out the colors of the photograph. Many overhead florescent light fixtures do not put out enough light to properly judge a color print – even if daylight bulbs are installed. If none of these options are available, judge the color of the print near a window which provides indirect daylight.
